What is the best hair transplant method?

There is more than one option available when it comes to hair transplant procedures. Today we have the FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) procedure, and also modifications such as the Sapphire FUE as well as the DHI (Direct Hair Implantation) method.

Some clinics today may still be performing the older FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation) method as well. It is useful to compare these different methods when you are trying to decide which hair transplant procedure is best for you.

FUE is a technique that was developed as a modification of FUT, in which the harvesting the hair follicles is much improved upon.

Sapphire FUE is really the same as the original FUE technique except for the blade that is used. A blade that is made of sapphire is used instead of a metal blade. This is beneficial for people who have a metal allergy. Sapphire FUE also involves making smaller incisions in the scalp.

Besides the two FUE techniques, we also have the DHI method of hair transplantation. This is the direct hair implantation method which uses a Choi or DHI pen (implanter) to extract and transplant hair.

Which method is best for hair transplants, the FUT, FUE, FUE sapphire or the DHI?

FUT is an outdated procedure which really does not provide good results compared with the more modern approaches. The surgeon cuts a strip of skin containing hair follicles from the donor part of the scalp. The problem with this is that it does leave a very noticeable scar. This is why the FUE technique was developed – to overcome this problem of scarring.

Every modern hair transplant procedure that is available today has advantages and disadvantages. This is true of the FUE, FUE Sapphire, and DHI methods.

FUE

FUE is the most affordable method for most people. It is a procedure that virtually every hair transplant clinic offers. There is also an abundance of professionals who have been trained to do the FUE procedure. Most of them have lots of experience because it has been around for the long time. FUE Sapphire

The FUE Sapphire procedure is similar to the standard FUE method but uses a different type of blade, which can result in better results when it comes to the incisions and degree of scarring. However, fewer hair transplantation clinics offer this method. It is also more expensive because a special blade made of sapphire, a precious gemstone, is used.

DHI

DHI uses a special instrument called a DHI implanter or DHI pen to perform the procedure. Each hair follicle is placed separately directly onto the affected area. The surgeon must be well-trained in this method. Not all clinics have DHI-trained specialists.  This procedure takes longer to complete than the other methods. It is is ideal for individuals who want a thicker head of hair.
