America’s oldest surviving airline

It is the oldest American airline still operating in the United States. Its history traces back to an aerial crop dusting operation, called Huff Daland Dusters, which was incorporated in Macon, Georgia, in 1924. It was renamed “Delta Air Service” in 1928 and a year later the company began carrying passengers.

The company is a founding member of the SkyTeam global alliance, which allows Delta to link its network with the route networks of the other member airlines. Other members of SkyTeam are Aeroflot, Aerolineas Argentinas, Aeroméxico, Air Europa, Air France, Alitalia, China Airlines, China Eastern, China Southern, CSA Czech Airlines, Kenya Airways, KLM, Korean Air, Middle East Airlines, Saudi Arabian Airlines, Tarom, Vietnam Airlines and Xiamen Airlines.

Delta Air Lines, Inc. also operates trans-Atlantic joint ventures with Air France-KLM, Alitalia, and Virgin Atlantic.

The company is publicly listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) under the stock ticker symbol ‘DAL’.

August 10, 2014: Delta Air Lines was voted the best US airline in 2014. It had lowest proportion of mishandled luggage, the best on-time arrivals record, canceled the fewest flights, and also got top marks for the most improved customer service. Quite a feat for a carrier that came in last in 2013.
