How to Craft Legendary items in Shadowlands

Years have passed since those times when you could’ve just looted your precious legendary item from the corpse of a difficult boss with a little drop chance. Shadowlands expansion has brought a very interesting and complicated system of legendaries to WoW, and made your potential choice more and more rich with every patch out. WoW always leaves a freedom for player’s game strategies, but these items are a very important part of successful PVE-content in the latest expansion. That’s why you need them, and this guide on how to craft legendary items in Shadowlands!

Patch 9.2

A crafting guide can’t be written without listing changes that the latest WoW patch brought to the legendary system. Patch 9.2 made it possible to wear two legendaries at the same time — players are obliged to choose a new one from their Covenant’s pool. Although the possibility to wear both is gained only through completing Zereth Mortis campaign, a positive moment is that once one character does it, the option becomes account-wide. Finally, materials for craft can be farmed not only in the tower of Torghast, but also in new location. And last but not the least: maximum rank of item is increased up to 7. 

Base Items

As before, one of the key components is a base item. They are made by those who are fond of Tailoring, Blacksmithing, Leatherworking and Jewelcrafting. Items have Ranks, and the power of your beloved item will seriously depend on it.

Base items are also required in the upgrade of legendary equipment. Every stage of making it better makes you find one again, and for making Rank 7 a special component Legendary a Vestige of the Eternal is needed, as it upgrades items by 3 Ranks. But for this you also must progress in the campaign of Zereth Mortis and improve your relationships with the faction of Enlightened. 

Craft and Upgrade 

Process of craft and upgrade of your legendary in Shadowlands is fully connected with the Runecarver. Since level 60 is reached you receive a quest that leads you to the Tower of the Damned, Torghast, where you can unlock Runecarver’s Oubliette location after completing a short questline. Then this place expects you to visit it with a pack of particular materials, which are:

• That Base Item we have recently talked about
• The Memory of the Runecarver —  an essential component to be found, bought and dropped in many places since you open the craft feature. 
• Two Missives crafted via Inscription
• Finally: lots, lots of Soul Ash. 

As you’ve guessed, level and stats of legendaries increase with every rank of base item — but the same is for the costs of Runecarving. 

• Rank 1 — 1250 Soul Ash
• Rank 2 — 2000 Soul Ash
• Rank 3 — 3200 Soul Ash
• Rank 4 — 5150 Soul Ash
• Rank 5 — 5150 Soul Ash and 1100 Soul Cinder
• Rank 6 — 5150 Soul Ash and 1650 Soul Cinder

A discount on Soul Ash is provided if legendary is just upgraded, but in the end sum of the Ash remains same. For instance, if you improve rank 2 Legendary to the next one, it costs 1200 of Soul Ash, but you have already spent 2000 on the craft of rank 2. The same is for Soul Cinder, that new WoW system requires for crafting legendaries of Rank 5 and 6. While Rank 7, added in 9.2, will also make you find 2000 of Cosmic Flux somewhere.

But remember that cost of the legendaries introduced to WoW in Shadowlands is in fact much higher than just huge amounts of currencies. Especially if you craft it with only your own efforts. Materials will require a lot of farming  — either these exact materials or huge numbers of gold to buy all of them.

Best Legendaries to Craft

You have seen the basics of a complicated but key process of the ongoing expansion. Now you know how to craft and upgrade your legendary in the current patches of WoW.
