Office space is one of the main expenses a business has and anything to give a business more space or cut down on expenses is well worth it in my opinion.
In this article, we will take a look at home condensing your old media files can help save on office space. This saving can then be used to get a smaller office or to get more desks into your office to make your business more profitable.
Converting your old training VHS tapes to DVD may seem a little over the top but every little helps in this current situation, so let’s see how you can do it and the equipment you need.
There are a few different ways of converting your VHS videos to DVD and digital, we will take a look at the most common ways of doing it below.
Converting video to DVD yourself is one of the cheapest ways of doing it but it’s also in my opinion one of the most inconvenient as it takes up so much of your time. With that said it may take a lot of time but it doesn’t require much effort from you.
To convert your old video files to DVD you are going to need:
- A VCR and DVD combined player.
- A blank DVD.
- The VHS you want to copy.
Blank DVDs and the tape you want to copy are easy to find, the hardest part is finding a combined VCR and DVD player as the technology is so old, with that said you can often find them selling on eBay, Facebook, Craigslist, and in yard sales
If you have all of the above you are now ready to copy your VHS videos to DVD.
To start put in both DVD and VHS and begin playing the VHS. While you press the play button on your VHS player also hit the record button on your DVD player. This will start the recording process.
Easy right, the only problem with this method is that depending on the runtime of the movie you could be waiting between 2-3 hours to copy one VHS movie to DVD.
Sometimes finding a combined VCR and DVD player can be difficult so there is another method that’s more accessible to some but it is a little more complex.
The second method is to connect a VCR player up to your computer through a VCR to USB adapter. Once again this is an easy way of converting your VHS files to DVD or digital media and follows a similar process to the first method.
For this method, you are going to need a normal VCR unit which is much easier to get than a combination unit and you’re also going to need a VCR to USB adapter which you can get on Amazon.
Next, you’re going to need a method of recording on your computer. Most computers will come with software which will allow you to do this so you don’t need anything fancy here.
All you need to do with this method is connect your VCR and computer via the USB cable and press the play button on your VCR player. As you do this then turn on your screen capture software and record to your hard drive.
When you have finished you will have a media file on your computer that is an exact copy of your VHS tape. This method is simple enough to do and it’s cheap. The only drawback is that once again it takes up so much time.
The quickest method of converting VHS to digital
The quickest method of converting VHS to digital media is to use an online company to do it for you. Sending off your old videos to a reputable company is by far the best and most convenient way of converting your old videos so you can free up office space.
Sending your old files off to another company though can be expensive so be sure to shop around to get the best deal.
Benefits of converting your old media
We now know that you can save space by converting your old files but for a business, there are many more benefits such as your data can be backed up into multiple locations. For example, you may have old training tapes that have value on them, by backing them up not only do you preserve these old sales tips but you also have a convenient way of sharing these sales videos with new members of staff.
