Is vaping better than nicotine replacement therapy for stopping smoking?

E-cigarettes were compared to nicotine replacement treatment in the form of patches or gum in three trials. People who used nicotine-containing electronic cigarettes were more likely to stop than those who used another kind of nicotine replacement, according to the findings.

If six out of every hundred persons stopped using nicotine replacement treatment, ten out of every hundred people would cease using nicotine-containing electronic cigarettes. This suggests that electronic cigarettes containing nicotine might assist 4 out of every 100 individuals stop smoking.

Three further studies with 802 persons were the same when comparing electronic cigarettes with nicotine versus electronic cigarettes without nicotine.
