04:17 GMT, March 21, 2022Measurement of the quality of user experience (UX) is critical to ensure better productivity of the end-users. If the computer devices or applications do not function effectively, it can result in delay and hamper productivity.
However, if the apps or devices misbehave regularly, users get accustomed to this, and they accept the delay and consider it as a normal part of their day. Therefore, if you want to improve your organization’s operational efficiency and the experience of your users, you have to optimize the user experience and identify and measure the workflows of your organization. To identify and measure the workflows, Citrix and Microsoft have developed two different metrics such as Citrix ICA Round Trip Time and User Input Delay. In this article, we will explain to you the difference between these two metrics.
Citrix ICA Round Trip Time (RTT)
Citrix has prepared a metric named ICA Round Trip Time to measure the UX. This metric measures the time that an application takes to respond after providing an input. In this metric, the stopwatch starts from giving an input such as when you type something on the keyboard or click a button and it stops after having the response on the user interface.
Microsoft User Input Delay
Recently, Microsoft has also developed a new metric named User Input Delay to counter Citrix ICA RTT. This metric also functions similarly and measures the consumption of time by an application or device to respond to input. So, what is the difference between the metrics of Citrix and Microsoft? Let’s understand this.
Citrix ICA RTT vs User Input Delay
First of all, in order to provide the result, ICA RTT consists of two components.
The first component, Network Latency refers to the time that Citrix Workspace App or Citrix Receiver takes to send a network package to the server and then receive the response.
The second component refers to the amount of time that the application takes to process the input of the user and provide the result.
However, there are drawbacks associated with ICA RTT. For instance, your sample may show lower ICA RT than your network latency. The availability of ICA RTT is only for the session-level. You may also not be able to understand whether the delay is due to the application or the network. But there are ways to improve ICA RTT. For instance, you modify the group policy options, such as ICA RTT calculations for idle connections and intervals. You can also develop a script to get rid of some drawbacks.
On the other hand, User Input Delay helps to measure the time taken by a process to respond to the input of a user. This metric accurately determines whether the application is functioning efficiently or not. With the help of this metric, you can effectively measure the time between the point of the click and UI returns. Therefore, with the help of User Input Delay, you can accurately detect the poor experience and improve the user experience of your organization.
