The first Woolworths store opened on Friday, 5 December 1924, in Sydney. It’s opening advertisement said that “Every city needs a Woolworths: Sydney has it now. Every man, woman and child needs a handy place where good things are cheap.”
The company went public in 1993 – the largest share float in Australian history.
