As of 2014, it is the second largest food and beverage business in the world and the largest food and beverage business (in terms of revenue).

The company was created in 1965 following a merger of the Pepsi-Cola Company (a soft drink company formed in 1902) and Frito-Lay Inc. (a snack foods manufacturer formed in 1961).
