A keen UFO seeker says he has spotted cave paintings in photographs sent by NASA’s Curiosity Rover, a car-sized robot that is exploring the Gale Crater on the Red Planet as part of the Mars Science Laboratory mission.
Scott C. Waring, who runs the UFO Sightings Daily blog, said he came across some squiggly carved lines while he was pouring through NASA’s images.
He insists they are ancient cave paintings from what must have been cavemen, or in this case cave-Martians. He pointed out that they look very similar to our ancient cave paintings.
A running man and a snake
One of the carvings has what looks like a runnning man, Mr. Waring claims. He posted an image, with the relevant part of the picture highlighted in colour. There is another image of a snake, he adds.
He said he found many similarities between this carving and some ancient cave paintings here on Earth.
Mr. Waring wrote:
“Sure, they are very primitive, but here on Earth we don’t dismiss them when we see them, however, just because it is Mars, and the fact that I am not a government employee is enough to make people say I’m wrong.”
“This is a photo from a government source, and it’s a non-biased object – a rover – that took it. It has nothing to hide, nor to gain. Therefore, to dismiss this evidence is to turn your back on reasoning.
So there you have it. You are asked to believe him for two reasons: 1. A part of an image reminds him of something here on Earth. 2. He is not a government employee.
Yesterday, Mr. Waring claimed he discovered a petrified fish on Mars’ surface, just by looking at one of Curiosity’s images.
In fact, if everything Mr. Waring and others have ‘spotted’ in photos taken on the Red Planet were true, there would be an ultra-large gorilla with a small camel-like friend, a Buddha, a mouse with eyes and a huge nose and ears, an underground base with a weapon in it, and a carving of Nabu, the face of the Assyrian Babylonian god of wisdom.
Another case of paredolia?
Do you remember as a child looking up at the clouds and telling your parents, brother or sister that their shapes reminded you of things – perhaps a bunny rabbit or the profile of a person’s face?
That is pareidolia, when things or sounds remind you of someone or something that is not really there.
However, we all know that those clouds just remind us of things, animals or people – they are not real.
Sometimes people really believe that what they see is real, as may occur when somebody claims they saw the face of Jesus Christ on a piece of burnt toast.
According to Merriam-Webster, pareidolia is:
“The tendency to perceive a specific, often meaningful, image in a random or ambiguous visual pattern. The human brain is optimized to recognize faces, which could also explain why we are so good at picking out meaningful shapes in random patterns.”
Over the last few years, the number of alleged UFO sightings and alien encounters have increased significantly. Psychologists will tell you that this rise coincides with the large number of sci-fi series and movies that have hit our screens and monitors.
UFO enthusiasts and alien avid alien seekers, however, believe it is because the evidence out there has become so overwhelming that the authorities are no longer able to keep a lid on things – the big secret is becoming common knowledge.
