Just last month Apple released the highly successful iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. The two devices were very well received by consumers.
But it looks like Apple is already working on its next smartphone. According to a report by TrendForce, a new iPhone – likely the iPhone 7 – is set to be released in the second half of 2016.
The report says that the upcoming smartphone will be completely waterproof and have 3GB of RAM.
The aforementioned features are expected to be top notch and the most significant improvements to Apple’s iPhone. There are some rumors circulating the web that only the 7 Plus will receive the boost in memory though.
More memory is always welcome. But the most interesting feature, if the reports are indeed true, is that the phones will be completely waterproof. Apple hasn’t released a waterproof device despite its Android competitors, such as Sony, launching a range of products that are waterproof to some degree.
In addition, there is expected to be “upgraded 4-inch iPhone C series” device appearing in the second quarter of the year 2016.
In the same report TrendForce said that it expects Apple to sell approximately 260 million iPhones next year, which would be 12.5% higher than in 2015.
Meanwhile, Samsung smartphone sales are expected to increase to approximately 310 million units.
Trendforce expects upcoming high-end smartphones to use 14 or 16nm chips for their processors, have RAM boosted to between 4 and 6GB, and need full HD or QHD display to compete.
