LG is working on a smartphone with a curved display that folds over the top of the phone, according to a tweet by serial-leaker Evan Blass.

The smartphone maker is well known for developing phones with flexible designs, but a folding curved display is a whole new concept for a smartphone.

Evan Blass said on Twitter: ”LG’s also got a handset with curved display in the works – but this one wraps over the top of the device.”

The LG Flex features a curved display.

LG was the first company to implement a curved screen on a smartphone with its LG Flex.

Samsung followed suit and incorporated a curved screen to its S6 Edge.

Samsung’s Edge series of smartphones with curved side displays has been more popular among consumer than LG’s Flex series, but that may soon change if the rumour by Blass is true.

The phone described would likely have a screen that rolls over the top – a different approach to that taken by Samsung.

It’s unlikely that there will be any word on the phone before the end of the year. However, it could be unveiled at CES in January.
