Microsoft released a series of driver and firmware updates for the Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book which should help address power management and sleep mode bugs.
There are 13 updates in total which were created to ensure the Surface keeps its charge.
The rollout follows reports of some devices not going into sleep mode properly – continuing to draw power as if they were fully awake. According to Techspot, a Microsoft support forum employee admitted that energy consumption was a known issue the company had been working on fixing for a while.
Panos Panay, head of Microsoft’s Surface division, said in a blog post that the new updates should help users “get the most of the power management options that Surface is designed to offer and continue to make your Surface more productive,”
He added: “We are committed to continuing to improve Surface – to keep pushing out updates to make your device more awesome. And to continue to help all our customers realize the full benefits of the latest silicon and Windows 10. With that in mind, one of the most important steps you can take is to ensure your Surface is up-to-date with the fixes we post on Windows Update.”
The updates are installed automatically via Windows Update. Users can also install the updates manually by going go to Start -> Settings -> Update & Security -> Windows Update -> Check For Updates.
