Anthony Lacavera is stepping down as the chief executive officer of Wind Mobile, with Pietro Cordova taking his place.
Mr. Cordova has been the company’s chief operating officer for the past two years.
According to a statement by Wind Mobile, Mr. Lacavera will continue as chairman of the board and be involved in the company’s business planning.
Wind Mobile announced a deal recently for Mr. Lacavera’s holding company, Globalive Capital, to acquire the carrier’s foreign owner VimpelCom Ltd. He was able to fund the acquisition through a series of fundraising, with hedge funds such as West Face Capital and Tannenbaum Capital Partner backing the deal.
The company is nearing 800,000 subscribers.
Lacavera said:
“As an entrepreneur, my vision was to ignite change across the wireless landscape in Canada, bringing more competition, better prices and superior service to Canadians and that is exactly what we did. WIND Mobile is on a solid profitable growth track, and I am confident Pietro will bring the same strong leadership to the WIND CEO position that he has demonstrated successfully over the past two years as COO.”
“It has been a pleasure working with Tony for the last two years and I look forward to continue working with him in his new capacity at WIND,” said Cordova. “WIND 2.0 is on solid ground, and I look forward to providing my ongoing support and leadership to the organization as we enter a very exciting phase in the life of WIND.”
