Plastic containers and the plastics they are made of

The production of plastic containers is a very extensive industry. Plastic containers are durable and very convenient to use, as well as safe, which is why there is a very high demand for them. The development of the industry enables the production of containers that are also safe for the natural environment and then recycled. What might they look like? What material are they made of?

Plastic containers—what do they look like?

Plastic containers can take various shapes and a different size. They have different capacities and are most often made of three materials. We are talking about HDPE, rHDPE and PP.

Depending on needs, the plastic container production industry offers transparent or invisible containers. Containers made of plastic can have various types of closures to enable the contents to be stored in tight conditions, without access to light and without exposing it to moisture and other external factors.

Commercially available packaging is suitable and ready for storage of loose, liquid and solid products. Recycled plastic may be used in the production of some of them.

Such packaging can be purchased individually at retail or ordered in wholesale quantities, as a set, if you run a business. You can decide to purchase ready-made containers or decide to cooperate with manufacturers who will create packaging tailored to the needs of a specific brand.

HDPE containers in plastic industry

HDPE is a material that has a high level of density. It has a milky colour, so it is not transparent. It is used to produce containers in which food is stored. Furthermore, it is considered a safe material, therefore it is approved for the production of packaging containing food products. It does not react with food, which could lead to a change in the properties of the food, its texture, destruction, or spoilage.

What’s more, plastic containers made from HDPE are also used in the chemical industry, e.g. for storing household chemicals and other cleaning products.

HDPE is a plastic that is resistant to damage and impacts. Containers made of it can be used for a long time. They are also reusable. Such packaging can be used to store products that are in cold stores—even up to -40 degrees Celsius.

What is rHDPE material in the production of containers?

rHDPE are containers made of recycled plastics. They are resistant to changing temperatures, light, durable and are produced by an industry that takes into account the circular economy and care for the natural environment. In this way, the amount of plastic waste is reduced, the number of landfills is lowering, and sustainable development is effectively supported.

The more ecological rHDPE comes from previously used HDPE packaging, which is then sorted, cleaned and processed. This involves grinding, possibly melting and forming to obtain the desired shapes of containers.

Plastic containers made of PP

PP is used to produce polypropylene containers. It is characterised by physiological indifference. This means that it decomposes relatively quickly. It can be used to produce containers in which food is stored. It is most often found in industry where yogurt containers are produced. It is a material safe for humans.

Containers made of PP are resistant to low temperatures (up to -20 degrees Celsius) and high temperatures (up to 60 degrees Celsius).

Each plastic used in the production of new containers must meet stringent norms, standards and legal regulations.
