Groupe Renault is a French multinational that focuses on the production of automobiles. The company, which is based in Boulogne-Billancourt, France, is publicly listed on Euronext under the stock ticker symbol ‘RNO’.
It is one of the largest automakers in the world and the third largest European automaker (behind PSA and Volkswagen).
It has a broad range of products, including city cars, high-end sedans, executive vehicles, sports utility vehicles, zero emission vehicles, sport cars, and light commercial vehicles (LCVs).
Groupe Renault sells and markets its vehicles under the following three brands: Renault, Dacia and Renault Samsung Motors.
The company has a presence in 128 countries and a total of approximately 121,136 employees. Its five biggest markets are: France, Brazil, Russia, Germany and Turkey.
Groupe Renault is well known for its participation in motor sport, particularly its recent success in Formula 1 and rallying.
Renault was founded by Louis Renault and his brothers Fernand and Marcel in 1899 under the name “Société Renault Frères”. The company began manufacturing its own engines in 1903 and in 1905 it made its first significant sale to the Société des Automobiles de Place, which used the cars as taxis.
