Symantec Corporation is one of the leading software companies in the world (particularly in security software solutions). Its global headquarters are in Mountain View, California.

Symantec is comprised of four main business segments: consumer, endpoint security, storage management and backup.
The company was founded by a group of visionary computer scientists in 1982. Originally Symantec focused on database query and report generation – with their natural language system called “The Intelligent Assistant”.
In 1989 Symantec went public and has its IPO. A year later a merger with Peter Norton Computing was announced. Since the merger Symantec has marketed many of its products (including its consumer antivirus and data management utilities) under the Norton brand name.
According to Symantec, the company has a “unique focus is to eliminate risks to information, technology and processes independent of the device, platform, interaction or location.”
