In 2016, the Reliance Group took the Indian Telecom Industry by storm when it introduced high-speed 4G internet at cheap rates. To this date, the service titled Jio continues to provide an entire nation its daily dose of entertainment. Many platforms and apps have seen enormous growth in user numbers because of this.

Tiktok, formerly known as Musical.ly, is one such entertainment app which was developed by a Chinese firm named ByteDance. This app, which was launched in 2017, allows its users to create and share short videos ranging from 15 seconds to 1 minute.

With over 100 million downloads, TikTok was ranked among the top applications in 2018. It has performed exceptionally well, and is quite popular with young people. The social media video app has a sizeable fan base in every country where it is available.

Speaking of India, Jio has helped young users create a lot of content on TikTok. With 2GB high-speed data every day, many youngsters are trying to get famous TikTok. In their pursuit, some succeed, while others just end up producing materials that make viewers cringe.

Hence people have mixed reviews for TikTok, but Instagram is a whole different story.

  • Instagram v TikTok

Instagram is a photo-sharing platform that has come a long way since it was introduced. With thousands of celebrities having their official account on Instagram, it is also counted among the top rankers.

The thing with TikTok and Instagram is that they both run on a near-identical model. Therefore, there is a good chance that TikTok eventually becomes the new Instagram. Regarding the functions of both apps, TikTok and Instagram allow their users to share their content and build up followers. The only thing that is different is that Instagram does not have as much content as TikTok.

Social media marketing is a rapidly growing component of many companies’ marketing strategies. As far as this type of marketing is concerned, both TikTok and Instagram are attractive channels. In both social media apps, for a marketing campaign to succeed, content must be unique and also go viral.

As both share a huge user base, they are likely to deliver what many digital marketing professionals are seeking. Digital marketing refers to marketing strategies via the Internet or other digital media. We also refer to it as online marketing, web marketing, or Internet marketing.

  • What’s the difference?

TikTok has seen immense growth in several countries because of the type of service it’s providing, i.e., helping individuals develop their creative selves. This enables them to explore themselves, which is one of the app’s most important advantages.

People love to explore, and TikTok has actually given them that opportunity – to explore for hidden talents on the Internet. Instagram does not yet have this feature. Although users can post stories on Instagram and share images, except for pictures there are not many options for creating content.

Both the apps are trying their best to improve and meet the challenges in today’s ever-changing market. TikTok, however, seems  to have the edge because it has more to offer.

Speaking of variety, the diversity on both apps is visibly huge. People from different countries across the world share their everyday experiences on Instagram, including some new content. But with TikTok, users have the option of creating experiences for others while making new content. Hence, TikTok allows users to spend their time creating new material, watching something old, and learning stuff simultaneously.

The way I see it, TikTok certainly has the upper hand. Hopefully, the whole TikTok setup won’t mean that everyone takes themselves too seriously, which can lead to controvery and unwelcome chaos.

  • Challenges ahead

In an attempt to get famous quickly, content creators on TikTok are using ways that can help them buy TikTok followers. TikTok has been in the news for all the right and wrong reasons. We hear, for example, about some users accidently dying while trying to create daring and dangerous videos.

TikTok in India, or in any country for that matter, should have strict guidelines and rules that users need to adhere to. TikTok will most likely overtake Instagram in terms of users and content. However, if it does not introduce some serious regulations, one wonders how long it can survive.
