4 Tips to Repair a Malfunctioning Microwave

Almost everyone nowadays has a microwave. It is one of the most popular electronic appliances. And like all household appliances, they all have a limited life period and, therefore, it is quite normal that after some time problems will start appearing. Still, some situations can be avoided.

Below you will find some. If, after trying all this you cannot solve the problem, then do not hesitate to hire a professional microwave repair. But before getting into “these situations”, it’s important you learn how a microwave works…

How does a microwave work?

Microwave ovens use microwave radiation that’s where their name comes from, they are electromagnetic waves ranging from 300 Megahertz (MHz) and 30 Gigahertz (GHz), to generate them a magnetron that is inside is used and that causes water molecules that are present in food to rotate and vibrate. These vibrations and rotations of the water molecules produce heat, which is what cooks food, now you know why and how food is heated so quickly in the microwave.

Here are some situations why your microwave may be malfunctioning:

1. The plate does not rotate

This is perhaps one of the most common problems. Normally, this situation can happen because the container is larger than the plate or because it is too heavy. Check both options and, if it is not due to either of these reasons, also check if the plate is correctly placed.

In the microwave, there is a rotary motor that is responsible for turning the plate. If after checking that everything is correct and the chainring continues without turning, the most likely cause is that the motor is damaged, so it will be necessary to change it.

2. The microwave does not heat

First of all, check if the container you are using is suitable for heating in the microwave, because, on many occasions, this is the reason why the food stays cold. Still, if you notice that the container is hot, this means that the microwave heats properly. If it does not heat at all, you may have a problem with the magnetron, the power of the diode, the capacitor, or some defect in the door closing.

3. The microwave does not turn on

It may seem like basic advice, but the first thing to check in this case is whether the connection is properly seated. Also, check if the cable is damaged.

If you do not find any problems, it is best to take the product to a repair center, as you will most likely need help from a qualified technician, since one of the most common reasons for this situation is that a fuse is defective or the motor or the door closing mechanism has a problem.

4. The microwave produces sparks

Although it seems strange, this is also one of the most common problems. It can be caused by all the grease or food stains that remain in the walls of the microwave. Remember, you must unplug the microwave and clean it every now and then. If the microwave is still sparking, the problem may be internal. For this, you will need a support team to take a look at it.

Finally, you should know that it is advisable to repair only those things which you know how to do, do not repair anything that you do not know. Inventing is not part of electrical repairs as the consequences could be fatal.
