Sony announced that nearly its entire range of 2015 TVs will be running Android and that all their TVs will also offer built-in YouView functionality.

YouView is a TV-watching platform that combines broadcast television with catch-up services like BBC iPlayer, 4OD, ITV Player and 5 Demand.

This is the first time that YouView will be available directly integrated into a TV.

John Anderson, head of Sony UK and Ireland said:

“We’re delighted to be the first manufacturer in the UK to announce the addition of YouView to our range of TVs. We believe that our new Bravia range now has an unparalleled combination of Sony’s fantastic picture quality, fantastic design and the widest choice of content ever complete with Sony High Resolution Audio.”

With YouView users can search for TV shows or use the EPG to look at the last week of content – one of its key selling points.

Richard Halton, CEO, YouView said:

“This exciting YouView and Sony partnership will create a deep integration of YouView’s functionality within the new Sony TV range, built on the Android platform.”

In January at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) Sony confirmed nearly all of its 2015 range of TVs will run on Android.
