Instagram added a new feature yesterday for its users in the US. The Facebook-owned photo and video-sharing platform rolled out a heavily curated 24-hour video channel featuring the best videos that users posted related to Halloween.

Its first video channel lasted for 24 hours before disappearing from view. However, it represents the app’s first move in delivering curated video content and Instagram is said to be exploring other big events to offer curated videos for in the future.

“The Best of Halloween” was the first curated video channel on Instagram.

The concept of curated video channels is by no means new. Snapchat has a very similar feature called “Live Stories” which allows users to watch videos related to a certain theme (such as a specific holiday or event).

Twitter also tapped into the curated content market, with its launch of Moments earlier this month – a feature that shows the best stories happening on Twitter, curated by Twitter and select partners.

Instagram has not made an official announcement on the topic yet.

The only confirmation is an email that it sent to Re/code. ”This is a new way to experience events and big moments, as they happen, through the eyes of the Instagram community,” an Instagram spokesperson told Re/code.

It is a promising move and ensures that the app is up to date with shifting consumer preferences.

Instead of users having to search and filter through videos related to a big event, a curated channel instantly provides a compilation of “the best” content – a convenient feature that’s sure to be appreciated.
