Windows 10 has reached a milestone of 500 million “monthly active devices”, an impressive feat considering it was released less than two years ago.
Microsoft CEO Sayta Nadella made the announcement at the company’s Build 2017 developer conference in Seattle.
The company revealed that there are 100 million commercial Office 365 monthly active users, over 140 million Cortana monthly active users, 12 million organizations in Azure Active Directory, with more than 90% of Fortune 500 companies using Microsoft Cloud.
Microsoft also announced new Azure data and cloud services to help developers quickly modernize their existing apps, and new AI and Azure services for developers to more easily build intelligent apps.
The announcements come shortly after Microsoft unveiled two major new products, the Surface Laptop and Windows 10 S
Windows 10 S is a tailored version of Windows for students and teachers, with the “S” standing for “streamlined, significant performance, and security.”
While the new Surface Laptop, with its clamshell design weighing just 2.76 pounds, features a 13.5” PixelSense™ Display with immersive touchscreen and discreetly hidden Omnisonic Speakers.
Microsoft said that the display is the “thinnest LCD touch model ever created and put into a laptop”.
The Surface Laptop comes equipped with either Intel’s 7th-generation Core i5 or i7 processors, memory between 4GB and 16GB, and the option of an SSD starting at 128GB and maxing out at 1TB. The Surface Laptop’s starting price is $999.
The laptop has a battery life of up to 14.5 hours. In comparison, the Apple MacBook has a battery life of 8 hours.
Pre-orders for the laptop have already started, however, the product will not deliver until June 15th.
