Earlier this week Adidas announced that its systems may have been breached.

The information of millions of customers could have been exposed by the breach.

Adidas said that it first became aware of a possible breach on Tuesday.

Two days later the company reported that “an authorized party claims to have acquired limited data associated with certain Adidas consumers”.

Consumers potentially affected by the possible data breach are thought to be those who bought products on the company’s US website.

Adidas’s preliminary investigation shows that contact information, usernames and encrypted passwords might have been exposed.

Adidas said in a statement:

“Adidas is working with leading data security firms and law enforcement authorities to investigate the issue.

“According to the preliminary investigation, the limited data includes contact information, usernames and encrypted passwords. adidas has no reason to believe that any credit card or fitness information of those consumers was impacted.

“While adidas continues its thorough forensic review, adidas is alerting relevant consumers.”

The company added:

“While adidas continues its thorough forensic review, adidas is alerting relevant consumers.”

News of the possible data breach at Adidas comes only months after sportswear giant Under Armour reported a breach which exposed 150 million customer usernames, email addresses and encrypted passwords.
