EE announced that it is recalling over a million of its Power Bars for smartphones over fears that some of them could overheat and explode.

EE has urged consumers to return their Power Bars to its stores, stating that it was a “precautionary action” to keep customers safe.

The Power Bars were given to EE customers so that they could charge their smartphones on the go.

However, since a previous recall earlier this year EE says that two Power Bars have overheated – prompting the recent recall.

The EE Power Bar allows people to charge their phones on the go.

“We are aware of a very small number of further incidents where Power Bars have overheated in circumstances that could cause a fire safety risk,” EE said. “If you have a Power Bar, you should stop using it straight away and hand it in to one of our stores.”

The company said that customers returning their Power Bars will receive a £20 voucher. A voucher is a document with a specified value which entitles the user to claim a discount for certain amount or free product or service.

The telecommunications giant said that the Bars should not be charged at the mains or used to charge smartphones until further notice.

An EE spokesman said: “We’re recalling all EE Power Bars. Customers with a Power Bar should stop using it and return it to one of our stores.

“We are taking this action because we are aware of a very small number of further incidents where Power Bars have overheated and this could cause a fire safety risk.

“We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause but customer safety is a priority and that’s why we’re taking this voluntary and precautionary action.”
