Google Inc is going to be introducing child-friendly versions of its major software releases.

“The big motivator inside the company is everyone is having kids, so there’s a push to change our products to be fun and safe for children,” Google VP of engineering Pavni Diwanji told USA Today.

Specific versions of its search, Chrome, and Youtube products will be available for younger web users aged 12 and under.

Google has not currently provided a timeline for the rollout.

“We want to be thoughtful about what we do, giving parents the right tools to oversee their kids’ use of our products,” said Diwanji.

“So the better approach is to simply see to it that the tech is used in a better way.”

Over the past few months Google has been targeting kids and pre-teens with programs such as Doodle 4 Google, Maker Camp, and Made with Code.

One of the main concerns about this new focus on kids is whether or not Google will be able to generate any extra profit.

The majority of the company’s revenue heavily relies on user-data collection and authorities may feel uneasy about the collection of personal data among this particular demographic.
