Nokia, under HMD Global, has launched its first flagship Android smartphone, the Nokia 8, slated to compete against Samsung’s Galaxy S8 and the Apple iPhone 8.

nokia8What makes the Nokia 8 stand out is its split screen camera feature called Dual Sight.

Dual Sight allows simultaneous use of the smartphone’s front and rear cameras in “a split screen visual for both photos and videos.” Nokia has coined the term “bothie” to describe the feature.

The Dual Sight feature can also be used for streaming live video – letting viewers see both the person talking and what’s in front of them at the same time.

A Nokia spokesman said: ‘Be less selfie, be more bothie. There are two sides to every story and the Dual-Sight feature of Nokia 8 is designed to help you create and share the full picture.’

Another feature that makes the phone stand out is that it can record 4K video using Nokia OZO spatial 360° audio – sound is played in multiple directions, imitating how the sound was captured during recording. With Audio Focus mode, users can accentuate the right sounds to reduce background noises or ambient sounds.

According to Nokia, the phone is built upon the cutting-edge Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 835 Mobile Platform, “engineered to deliver exceptionally long battery life.”

“We’ve also added a full-length copper cooling pipe with graphite shield to dissipate system heat across the full body of the phone,” the company said.

The Nokia 8 comes with Android Nougat 7.1.1. It has 13 MP front and rear cameras with ZEISS optics, a 5.3” 2K polarized display, protected by sculpted Corning® Gorilla® Glass 5, 4GB of RAM, and 64 GB mass storage and MicroSD card support up to 256 GB.

Last year the Finnish-based startup HMD Global secured Nokia brand licensing rights and launched its first Nokia branded smartphone at the beginning of 2017.
