Volkswagen released images hinting at the styling of its next generation of electric vehicles on Friday.

Teaser shots of VW’s fully electric concept car set to be revealed later this month at the Paris Motor Show:

In a statement released with the images, Volkswagen said: “This one-of-a-kind concept car signals the Volkswagen brand’s entry into a new era: because the vehicle is as revolutionary as the Beetle was seven decades ago, before it evolved into the world’s best-selling car of the last century.

“The concept car has the potential to make history with its completely new vehicle concept. The production vehicle which follows will be the first Volkswagen to hit the market based on the new modular electrification kit (MEB).”

According to VW Group CEO Matthias Müller, the production car which follows the concept is scheduled for release in 2019 and will reach between 250 and 300 miles on a single charge.

Earlier this year the carmaker announced that it plans to launch 30-all electric models as part of a goal to reposition itself as a leader in “green” transport following the “dieselgate” scandal.

By 2025, Müller hopes that all-electric cars will account for between 20 to 25 percent of the company’s annual sales.

Mr Mueller said that the carmakers is aiming to “transform its core automotive business or, to put it another way, make a fundamental realignment in readiness for the new age of mobility”.

He said: “Special emphasis will be place on e-mobility.” Adding: “The group is planning a broad-based initiative in this area: it intends to launch more than 30 purely battery-powered electric vehicles over the next ten years.”
