iPad Pro production delayed due to display panel issues

Production of Apple’s plus-sized iPad Pro has been delayed because of issues with display panels, according to sources.

The iOS tablet, which is rumoured to have a screen size of a 12.9-inches, was set to go into production this quarter, according to Bloomberg.

However, it looks like production won’t start until September, due to “delays involving the supply of display panels”.

This could mean that Apple’s upcoming tablet won’t hit the market until late-2015 or early-2016.

Companies that supply displays to Apple include Japan Display, LG Display, and Sharp. After the news of the delay shares of the three companies fell.

No official unveiling yet

At its press event in October 2014 many people were expecting Apple to present the iPad Pro, however, the company did not mention it and focused on its iPad mini and iPad air lineup.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Apple pushed back production of the tablet to focus on its iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

So far all the information about the iPad Pro comes from unofficial sources.

In January someone on the Weibo microblogging site uploaded a photo of what looked like a mould for the rear shell of the tablet – it was labeled “iPad Pro”.

Apparently the photo was shot at Apple manufacturer Foxconn’s factory in China. Despite the image being rather low quality there is an Apple logo in the centre.

The iPad Pro, a more business focused device, is also rumoured to have dimensions of 305.3 x 220.8 x 7 millimeters.

Apple is also expected to launch a stylus for the iPad Pro. Ming-Chi Kuo made the claim in January in reference to the number of stylus-themes patents that the tech firm has filed.
