Microsoft has acquired the email startup Acompli, maker of the professional-grade email client for Android and iOS devices. The move represents Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella’s long-term plan of expanding in cross-platform technologies.

The Acompli app offers innovative ways to focus on what’s important to a person’s inbox, schedule meetings, and easily handle attachments and files.

Microsoft wants Acompli tech for mobile devices

Rajesh Jha, Corporate Vice President of Outlook and Office 365, said that “this acquisition is part of our company-wide effort to help people accomplish more with their mobile devices.”

Adding:

“We’re excited about what’s possible as we build on the app’s success and bring it together with work currently in progress by the Outlook team. Our goal is to deliver fantastic cross-platform apps that support the variety of email services people use today and help them accomplish more.”

Javier Soltero, CEO at Acompli, Inc., said that he was “incredibly excited to announce that Acompli has been acquired by Microsoft.”

“Our team and products will become part of Microsoft’s ambitious effort to reimagine productivity for the mobile era.”

“Over the next few months, we’ll be sharing more about the exciting product plans we have as Acompli becomes a part of Microsoft. We remain committed to the original Acompli vision of making the best mobile email application on any platform and across all services.”

Acompli’s tech to be integrated into Office 365 offering

Full details of the acquisition have not been announced yet, however, it is believed that Acompli’s email smarts will soon be integrated into Microsoft’s Office 365 offering. Re/code reports that Microsoft acquired Acompli for more than $200 million.
