Tesla boss Elon Musk announced on Twitter that the EV maker plans on making pick-up trucks in the future.

Musk went to Twitter to ask his followers on the social networking service how Tesla can improve further.

Musk tweeted:

“Wanted again to send a note of deep gratitude to Tesla owners WW for taking a chance on a new company that all experts said would fail. So much blood, sweat & tears from the Tesla team went into creating cars that you’d truly love. I hope you do. How can we improve further?”

One of the replies Musk received called for the need of an electric pick-up truck.

Musk replied back, promising that Tesla will make an electric pickup truck right after Model Y. He said that he is “dying to build it”.

“[I] have had the core design/engineering elements in my mind for almost five years,” he added.

Pick-up trucks account for around 18% of total vehicles sold in the US. According to Morningstar Equity research, sales by the three leading truck manufacturers add up to an estimated $90bn (£67bn) a year.

In response to a question about the size of the truck Tesla has planned, Musk said that it might be “slightly bigger” than the Ford F-150 pick-up to account for a really “gamechanging” feature that Musk would like to add.
