A new leak of HTC’s upcoming flagship phone suggests that it will simply be called the ‘HTC 10’.

The Chinese smartphone maker will reportedly scrap the ‘One’ brand name it has been using since 2012.

Famed leaker of phones, Evan Blass at VentureBeat, said that HTC is veering away from its conventional naming scheme and is reinventing the lineup so that it can have a “fresh start among consumers” who were “jaded by what may well be the last One-branded handset, the One M9.”

Renders of the HTC 10 were recently shown on VentureBeat.

The images reveal a slim-bodied HTC M10 with a white casing. Note: these are computer rendered images and not photos of the actual handset.

The headphone jack is positioned at the top of the phone, while the USB Type C port and external speakers are on the bottom.

Unlike other smartphone manufacturers, HTC didn’t provide consumers with much information about its upcoming flagship phone during the Mobile World Conference in Barcelona last month.

The reason why HTC didn’t showcase the new phone at MWC is because its phone is expected to launch later than originally expected – around in mid-April. However, Blass said that the phone could be available for purchase as soon as early to mid-May.

The HTC 10 is rumoured to run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor and feature a 5.1-inch 2,560 x 1,440 quad-HD AMOLED display. There are three variants expected to be released; 16 GB, 32 GB, and 64 GB versions.

The smartphone is rumoured to be waterproof and could possibly have support for wireless charging.

However, these are just rumours. Consumers will have to wait until April to find out the official specifications and price information.

“We can confidently say that HTC will have a very, very compelling camera experience. We’re making this comment after we’ve seen what’s going on in the market,” said HTC CFO Chialin Chang.
