When the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset goes on sale next year it will come with a free adventure game called ‘Lucky’s Tale’.

The game features a “fun-loving” fox in a “charming new world,” according to an Oculus blog post. It was developed by Texas-based Playful Corp.

Earlier this month Oculus revealed that pre-orders of the Rift will come along with another free VR game called EVE: Valkyrie. So, those who pre-order the headset will have two VR games ready to play.

Playful Corp founder and CEO Paul Bettner was one of the original $5,000 backers of the Oculus Rift Kickstarter.

Oculus said: “Even in the earliest demos, Wired Magazine described the level of presence and immersion as ‘staggering.’ PC Gamer called it ‘a defining use’ of VR tech. We couldn’t agree more, which is why we’re thrilled to bundle it with Rift.”

Palmer Luckey, the original founder of Oculus VR and inventor of the Oculus Rift said:

“We always believed there was an opportunity for platformers in VR, but it wasn’t until playing Lucky’s Tale and working with the Playful team that we truly realized its potential to change how people view this genre of gaming forever. Lucky’s Tale delivers on everything you want in a next-generation VR game – it’s thrilling, full of adventure, and incredibly fun to play.”

Oculus co-founder Palmer Luckey announced via a post on Twitter that pre-orders for the Oculus Rift VR headset will start in the first quarter of 2016.

Mr. Luckey said in a tweet dated December 22: “Preorders are coming soon after new year. Enjoy a stress-free holiday, we won’t launch preorders without warning!”

He went on to post more tweets throughout the day, with one claiming that the manufacturing process is going smoothly and that the company is on target for “an awesome Rift launch” in the first quarter of next year.
