US President Donald Trump warned North Korea that the U.S. military is “locked and loaded”, telling reporters that Kim Jong Un would “truly regret” any attacks on Guam or other American territories and allies. The warning comes after North Korea announced plans to fire missiles near the US territory of Guam.

“Military solutions are now fully in place, locked and loaded, should North Korea act unwisely. Hopefully Kim Jong-un will find another path!” he tweeted.

“This man will not get away with what he’s doing, believe me,” Trump told reporters of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

“If he utters one threat in the form of an overt threat … or if he does anything with respect to Guam, or any place else that is an American territory or an America ally, he will truly regret it and he will regret it fast.”

Guam’s homeland security agency issued a fact sheet on Friday for residents.

It states: “Do not look at the flash or fireball – it can blind you.”

“Lie flat on the ground and cover your head. If the explosion is some distance away, it could take 30 seconds or more for the blast wave to hit.”

US Defence Secretary James Mattis wants to use diplomacy to solve North Korea crisis

US Defence Secretary James Mattis has said that the US hopes to use diplomacy to solve tensions with North Korea.

He said war would be “catastrophic” and that diplomacy was gaining results.

Efforts by Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and UN Ambassador Nikki Haley are having “diplomatic traction” and “gaining diplomatic results”, Mattis said.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel doesn’t see a military solution to the conflict

According to the German media outlet Deutsche Welle, Merkel told reporters in Berlin that she doesn’t see a military solution to the conflict.

“I see the need for enduring work at the U.N. Security Council … as well as tight cooperation between the countries involved, especially the U.S. and China,” she said.

Trump responded to Merkel’s comments, saying: “Well, I think maybe she’s speaking for Germany.”

“Let her speak for Germany. She’s a friend of mine, she’s a very good person, a very good woman. … Perhaps she is referring to Germany. She is certainly not referring to the United States. That I can tell you.”
