Apple has launched a battery case for the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6 smartphones.
The Smart Battery Case is Apple’s first big entry in the battery-case market, competing with third-party products such as the battery-base hybrids developed by Mophie.
The case, which looks similar to existing iPhone cases, gives users an extra power source promising to increase talk-time by up to a day (25 hours) or provide an additional 18 hours of Internet use (LTE).

Apple’s overview of the product:
“The Smart Battery Case is engineered specifically for iPhone 6s and iPhone 6 to give you even longer battery life and protection. The soft microfiber lining on the inside helps protect your iPhone, while the soft elastomer hinge design makes it easy to put the case on and take it off again. On the outside, the silky, soft-touch finish of the silicone exterior feels great in your hand.”
When the Smart Battery Case is on an intelligent battery status is displayed on the iPhone Lock screen and in Notification Center – providing information on exactly how much charge is left.
The case supports Lightning accessories, such as the Lightning to USB Cable, and it works with the iPhone Lightning Dock.
It currently costs £79.99 (or $99 in the US) and is available in charcoal or white.
There has been no word on whether there will be a version available for the iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 6S Plus.
