British families have a lot of gadgets. In fact, the average UK household owns 7.4 internet devices and 40% have purchased a tablet in the last year, according to a recent survey.

A YouGov poll of over 2,000 British consumers found that smartphones are the most common internet-devices, followed by laptops and then tablets.

SmartPhones

The results of the poll revealed that on average, per household, there are 1.7 smartphones, 1.3 laptops, and 1.2 tablets.

Seventy percent of households now own at least one tablet, with one fifth owning two and 11% owning three or more.

When asked what area of their lives would be affected the most without the internet or mobile phones over half (51%) said banking and finance. This was followed by keeping up with current events (42%), shopping (38%), and relationships with friends and family (37%).

The survey also found that the average Briton who is online would be willing to pay up to £1.53 a month for their email service, £1.33 to use search engines, £1.10 for video content, 92p for news websites, 88p for social media, 55p for online games and 52p for price comparison sites.

Digital advertising reaches record £7.2 billion

Digital advertising hit a record £7.2 billion in the UK, according to the latest Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB) UK Digital Adspend report, carried out by PwC.

The surge in digital advertising reveals the surging interest among companies to reach out to the growing number of consumers using smartphones and tablets.

Tim Elkington of IAB said:

“Advertisers are increasing their digital budgets to reach people as they go online through an increasing array of devices.

“It’s a win-win for consumers, because digital advertising pays for the wide range of free online services they increasingly rely on in their daily lives but don’t necessarily want to pay much for.”
