Channel Tunnel operator Eurotunnel has issued a warning that delays will continue after Saturday’s fire and the electrical fault on Sunday.

Eurotunnel posted an update this morning, which said:

“Our passenger service is currently operating with some timetable disruption, this is due to an incident in the Tunnel which is in the process of being resolved. There is a waiting time of approximately 90 minutes on the terminal.”

“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this will cause to your journey.”

Only one of the two tunnels is completely open and it looks like The Channel Tunnel won’t be fully operational until Tuesday.

Train operator Eurostar is hopeful though. The company posted the following tweet:

“Eurostar plans to run a full service on Mon 19 Jan. Passengers are advised to check-in as normal.”

The Channel Tunnel fire

According to Eurotunnel, cargo on a lorry on board one of its trains was “smouldering” and triggered two carbon dioxide detectors in one tunnel at 11:25 GMT on Saturday. Around 12,000 passengers were left stranded and Eurostar had to cancel 26 of its trains.

At around 11:30 GMT on Sunday Eurostar passenger trains began traveling through the tunnel again (only the south tunnel was open though). However, the south tunnel was temporarily closed later on though because of a power supply fault.

Eurostar’s customer care number is 03432-186-186, or (+44)-1777-777-878 for those outside the UK.
