The HTC Vive VR headset, set to launch on 5th April, will cost £689 in the UK, according to an official announcement by HTC.

The UK price is not as high as most had expected after details of the US price was unveiled earlier this month. The headset will cost consumers in the US $799, translating into about £576, however, it’s important to bear in mind that the US retail price doesn’t include sales tax.

The Vive costs slightly more than the Oculus Rift, which has a price tag of £500. But, unlike the Rift, the Vive comes bundled with proper VR controllers.

HTC said that the headset will come with two ‘Lighthouse’ sensors, two wireless controllers, a pair of ear buds, a link box, and free copies of Job Simulator and Fantastic Contraption.

HTC also announced that the pre-order bundle will come with Google’s Tilt Brush, a painting application which lets users paint in 3D space with VR.

The HTC Vive will be opened up to pre-orders on Monday, February 29 at 3pm GMT.
