Nissan launches the X-Trail Bobsleigh, world’s first seven-seater bobsleigh

Nissan has launched the first seven-seater bobsleigh in the world: the X-Trail Bobsleigh.

The bobsleigh was inspired by the design of the Nissan X-Trail (Rogue in the U.S market).

It mimics the X-Trail’s bold design, distinctive front aspect, headlamps and seven-seater option. The bobsleigh features the same ALL MODE 4×4-i system which helps the driver keep control in ice and snow.

Nissan has challenged convention with the launch of the world’s first seven-seater bobsleigh in Innsbruck, Austria. The X-Trail Bobsleigh was inspired by the design of the Nissan X-Trail and undertook its inaugural run at the historic Olympic track in Igls, piloted by British Olympic medalist Sean Olsson.

The bobsleigh, handcrafted by Diego Menardi at his workshop in Cortina, was developed using sketches and computer-aided design (CAD).

According to Nissan, “Darryl Scriven, Design Manager Nissan Design Europe (NDE), teamed up with expert bobsled manufacturer Diego Menardi and sport expert Ian Richardson to morph car design with Olympic aerodynamics.”

The Nissan X-Trail Bobsleigh made its inaugural run at the Olympic Sliding Center in Innsbruck, Austria. It was piloted by British Olympic medallist Sean Olsson.

“We wanted to give the opportunity to experience first-hand the adventurous nature of our crossover segment through the thrill and excitement of Olympic bobsleighing,” said Darryl Scriven, Design Manager at Nissan Europe.

The seven-seat bobsled can reach speeds of 62 mph and can pull a G-force of 4.5G in corners.
